An inguinal hernia is a type of hernia in which the contents of the abdominal cavity try to penetrate a weak point in the groin or scrotum. An umbilical hernia is also an inguinal hernia in which the tissue around the navel swells out of the muscle wall; hence the name umbilical hernia.

Very often there is an inguinal hernia from birth, which is due to an opening in the muscle wall that has not closed properly. Symptoms of hernia and pain may appear later in life. Common causes of inguinal hernia include chronic constipation, obesity, heavy lifting, etc. In short, any activity that puts sudden pressure on the abdominal cavity can lead to inguinal hernia. Pregnancy is often a cause in women. A small tear can develop into a large, painful, inflamed tear over time. Sometimes the hernia bulge can occur without the pain associated with it. Lying down may temporarily ease symptoms.

A hernia or hernia should be treated as serious if nausea and vomiting are symptoms, as these symptoms usually indicate that the intestine is trapped and retained in the hole caused by the hernia. A tightly closed part of the intestine may have interrupted blood flow and there is a real risk of burns.

Surgery is the only permanent treatment for a hernia. But if the opening is small and it doesn’t hurt, you can go without the surgery for life as long as the condition doesn’t get worse. Doctors are not really in favor of elective surgery today because there is little chance that a hernia will be detained, while patients report chronic pain after a hernia.

The treatment plan depends on whether the hernia can be reduced or not. The first can be pushed into the abdominal cavity with manual pressure, while the second needs surgery. Irreducible hernias are always classified as disabled, trapped and strangled.

The hernia may come back after the operation. To avoid the onset or recurrence, you need to maintain a healthy weight, exercise to keep the abdominal wall strong, and adequate support when lifting weights to avoid the insertion of a hernia and also to prevent postoperative recurrence.

Inguinal hernia repair can be done as open surgery or laparoscopic ally, depending on the extent of the case and your physical condition. This can be done under general or local anesthesia. Laparoscopic surgery has the advantage of reducing healing times and reducing scarring.
