Hemorrhoids can develop to anyone and they have many factors such as low fiber diet, overweight and pregnancy for women. In the physiological sense, hemorrhoids serves as means to aid the body with its bowel movement by cushioning the tools during bowel movement but they become piles or pathological when inflamed or swollen. Activities that can cause increased pressure in the anal canal and rectal area can definitely result to inflammation and swelling of tissues in the walls of the anus therefore developing piles or hemorrhoids.

Hemorrhoids can be divided into two categories namely external hemorrhoids and internal hemorrhoids. One of the common forms of internal hemorrhoids is the prolapsed hemorrhoids. This type of internal hemorrhoids usually appears as small area or a clump of soft tissues which is reddish in color. Prolapsed hemorrhoids are not dangerous and painful but if not treated properly, they can develop into thrombosed hemorrhoids which could protrude outside the anus and can cause severe pain and discomfort for the person.

Symptoms of prolapsed hemorrhoids can vary depending on the case but common signs and symptoms are itchiness in the anal area, bleeding which could appear in the stools or in the materials used to wipe and clean the anus, soiling of the underpants, feeling unfinished during bowel movements and being unable to finish emptying the bowels.

There are four categories of hemorrhoids according to their severity or seriousness and prolapsed hemorrhoids are usually formed in the second to fourth degree of hemorrhoids.

First Degree Hemorrhoids – this is the least severe among the four degrees of hemorrhoids and there are no portions or areas in the anus that are protruding out of the anal canal opening.
Second Degree Hemorrhoids – this form of hemorrhoids occur when there is a small clump of tissues protruding in the anal canal opening but retracts without intervention. Second degree prolapsed hemorrhoids are not painful.
Third Degree Hemorrhoids – in the third degree form it also protrudes in the anus but there is a need for the protruding to be manually inserted back the anus since it does not retract without intervention. This can also cause little discomfort and pain for the person with third degree prolapsed hemorrhoids.
Fourth Degree Hemorrhoids – this is the most severe of all prolapsed hemorrhoids because the protruding part of tissues in the anal canal opening cannot be inserted manually and keeps on re-emerging after being inserted. It will also cause severe pain and discomfort for the person especially when sitting. When this type of prolapsed hemorrhoids happens, a person should consult a doctor to ask proper advice on the effective and proper way to treat and end the hemorrhoids.
There are many treatments available to this type of hemorrhoids and they can vary depending on the severity of the case. Topical and natural treatments are being utilized to cure the hemorrhoids but in severe cases wherein the hemorrhoids are not healed using natural remedies and are causing severe pain and discomfort for the person, undergoing a surgery is the best way to end the prolapsed hemorrhoids.
