Open Thyroid Cancer Pop-up Dialog
Thyroid cancer occurs in the cells of the thyroid gland – a butterfly-shaped gland that is at the base of your neck, just below the Adam’s apple. Your thyroid produces hormones that regulate your heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, and weight. - Thyroid cancer may not cause symptoms at first. But as it grows, it can cause pain and swelling in the neck.
- There are different types of thyroid cancer. Some grow very slowly and others can be very aggressive. Most thyroid cancer cases can be cured with treatment.
- The rate of thyroid cancer appears to be increasing. Some doctors believe this is because new technology has enabled them to find small thyroid cancers that may not have been found in the past. Thyroid cancer Treatment in Khammam

Thyroid cancer usually doesn’t cause any signs or symptoms at the onset of the disease. As thyroid cancer grows, it can cause: - A lump (lump) that can be felt through the skin on your neck
Changes in your voice, including increasing hoarseness
difficulties swallowing
Pain in the neck and throat
Swelling of the lymph nodes in the neck
The reasons
It is not known what causes thyroid cancer.
Thyroid cancer occurs when cells in your thyroid undergo genetic changes (mutations). Mutations allow cells to grow and multiply quickly. Cells also lose the ability to die like normal cells would. The abnormal thyroid cells that accumulate form a tumor. The abnormal cells can invade nearby tissues and spread (metastasize) to other parts of the body.
Types of thyroid cancer
Thyroid cancer is classified into types based on the types of cells present in the tumor. Your type is determined when a sample of tissue from your cancer is examined under a microscope. The type of thyroid cancer will be taken into account in determining your treatment and prognosis. Thyroid cancer Treatment in Khammam
Types of thyroid cancer include:
Papillary thyroid cancer. The most common form of thyroid cancer, papillary thyroid cancer, arises from follicular cells that produce and store thyroid hormones. Papillary thyroid cancer can occur at any age, but most commonly affects people between the ages of 30 and 50. Doctors sometimes refer to papillary thyroid cancer and follicular thyroid cancer as differentiated thyroid cancer.
Follicular thyroid cancer. Follicular thyroid cancer also arises from the follicular cells of the thyroid gland. It usually affects people over the age of 50. Barrier cell cancer is a rare and potentially more aggressive type of follicular thyroid cancer.
Anaplastic thyroid cancer. Anaplastic thyroid cancer is a rare type of thyroid cancer that begins in follicular cells. It grows quickly and is very difficult to treat. Anaplastic thyroid cancer usually occurs in adults aged 60 and over.
Risk factors
Factors that can increase your risk of thyroid cancer include:
Females Thyroid cancer is more common in women than in men.
Exposure to high levels of radiation. Radiation therapy to the head and neck increases the risk of thyroid cancer.
Certain Hereditary Genetic Syndromes. Genetic syndromes that increase the risk of thyroid cancer include familial medullary thyroid cancer, multiple endocrine neoplasms, Cowden syndrome, and familial adenomatous polyposis.
prevention
Doctors aren’t sure what exactly causes most thyroid cancer cases. Therefore, there is no way to prevent thyroid cancer in people who are at average risk of developing the disease.
Prevention for people at high risk
Adults and children with an inherited genetic mutation that increases the risk of medullary thyroid cancer may consider thyroid surgery to prevent cancer (prophylactic thyroid removal). Discuss your options with a genetic counselor who can explain your risk for thyroid cancer and your treatment options. Thyroid cancer Treatment in Khammam
