overview

Measles rash
Open Measles Pop-up Dialog
Measles is a childhood infection caused by a virus. Once widespread, measles can now almost always be prevented with a vaccine.

Measles, also called rubella, can be serious and even fatal in young children. While death rates worldwide have fallen as more children receive the measles vaccine, more than 100,000 people still die from the disease each year, most under the age of 5.

Due to high vaccination rates in general, measles has not been common in the US for more than a decade. The United States had about 30 cases of measles in 2004, but more than 600 cases in 2014. Most of these cases came from abroad and involved people who were not vaccinated or who did not know whether they had been vaccinated or not. Measles Treatment in Hyderabad

symptoms

The signs and symptoms of measles appear around 10 to 14 days after exposure to the virus. The signs and symptoms of measles usually include:

  • fever
  • Dry cough
  • Runny nose
  • Sore throat
  • Inflamed eyes (conjunctivitis)
  • Tiny white spots with bluish-white centers on a red background are located in the mouth on the inner wall of the cheek – also called Koplik’s spots
  • A rash of large, flat patches that often connect

The reasons

Measles is a highly contagious disease caused by a virus that multiplies in the nose and throat of an infected child or adult. Then, when a person with measles coughs, sneezes, or speaks, infected droplets seep into the air where other people can breathe them.

Infected droplets can also land on a surface, where they remain active and contagious for several hours. You can get the virus by sticking your fingers in your mouth or nose, or rubbing your eyes after touching the infected surface.

Approximately 90% of the susceptible people exposed to someone infected with the virus become infected. Measles Treatment in Hyderabad

Risk factors

The risk factors for the measures include:

  • Don’t be vaccinated. If you haven’t received the measles vaccine, the chances that you will develop the disease are much higher.
  • Travel internationally. If you travel to developing countries where measles is more common, you are at higher risk of developing the disease.
  • Are you vitamin A deficient? If your diet doesn’t contain enough vitamin A, you are more likely to experience more serious symptoms and complications.

prevention

  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that children and adults receive the measles vaccine to help prevent measles.
  • Measles vaccine in children
To help prevent measles in children, doctors usually give infants the first dose of the vaccine between 12 and 15 months, with the second dose usually given between 4 and 6 years of age. Keep in mind:
  • If you are traveling abroad between the ages of 6 and 11 months, talk to your child’s doctor about getting the measles vaccine sooner.
If your child or teen has not received the two doses at the recommended times, they may need two doses of the vaccine four weeks apart. Measles Treatment in Hyderabad
