Mastitis is inflammation of the breast tissue that sometimes leads to infection. Inflammation causes chest pain, swelling, heat, and redness. You could also have a fever and chills.
Mastitis most commonly affects women who are breastfeeding (lactation mastitis). However, mastitis can occur in women who are not breastfeeding and in men. Lactation mastitis Treatment in Khammam
symptoms
The signs and symptoms of mastitis can come on suddenly. They can include:
- Chest tenderness or warmth to the touch
- Swelling of the chest
- Thickening of breast tissue or breast mass
- Pain or burning sensation continuously or while breastfeeding
- Reddening of the skin, often wedge-shaped
- Generally feeling sick
amuses The main cause of mastitis is milk trapped in the breast. Other causes are:
- A blocked milk duct. If a breast does not empty completely during feeding, one of your milk ducts can become blocked. The blockage causes the milk to flow back, which leads to a breast infection. Lactation mastitis Treatment in Khammam
- Bacteria invading your chest. Bacteria from the surface of your skin and your baby’s mouth can enter the milk ducts through a crack in the skin of your nipple or through a milk duct opening. Standing milk in an unsolved breast is fertile soil for bacteria.
- Muscles
- The breast has no muscle tissue. However, the muscles are under your breasts, separating them from your ribs.
Risk factors
Risk factors for mastitis are:
- Previous episode of mastitis while breastfeeding
- Sore or cracked nipples – although mastitis can develop without damaging the skin
- Wear a well-fitting bra or put pressure on your chest when using a seat belt or carrying a heavy bag, which can restrict milk flow
- Bad maintenance technique
- Too tired or stressed out
- Poor diet
- Smoke
Complications
Mastitis that is not treated properly or due to a blocked duct can cause pus (abscess) to build up in your chest. An abscess usually requires surgical drainage.
To avoid this complication, speak to your doctor as soon as you develop signs or symptoms of mastitis.
