To prevent and maintain varicose veins, you need to strengthen the walls of your veins. There are various natural treatments available today that cure and prevent varicose veins without using drugs or chemicals.

The herbed chestnut gives hope to people with varicose veins. Horse chestnut contains a natural chemical called aescin which strengthens the walls of the veins and prevents leakage.

In a study of 22 people with varicose veins, 22% of people who received horse chestnut had decreased venous leakage compared to an increase in venous leakage in people who received a placebo.

It is recommended that those who wish to use horse chestnut to treat varicose veins take two to four capsules containing 500 mg of herbs per day.

Another thing that has been shown to cure and prevent varicose veins is the antioxidants. Antioxidants contain bioflavonoids that strengthen the veins. People with varicose veins should eat foods rich in antioxidants, including fruits and vegetables. The more colorful the fruits and vegetables, the better.

Acupuncture can also help with varicose vein problems. Acupuncture reduces the size of varicose veins without side effects. In one study, five acupuncture treatments reduced pain in most people with varicose veins.

Believe it or not, pineapples also contain a natural chemical that treats varicose veins. The chemical, called bromelain, reduces the swelling and pain caused by varicose veins. Bromelain can be taken as a capsule.

Onions, apples and black tea have also been found to help with varicose vein problems. These foods contain a chemical called quercetin, which is anti-inflammatory. Quercetin is also available in capsule form. It should be taken with bromelain for optimal effectiveness.

Another easier way to prevent and treat varicose veins is to simply lift your feet 10 minutes a day. The idea is that your legs are higher than your heart so that blood can flow from your veins and give them a chance to get stronger. Sit down and put your feet on a coffee table or chair.

If it is difficult to include this 10-minute break a day in your schedule, you can buy a mattress topper that raises the foot of your bed a few inches. This way you can help your varicose vein problem while you sleep.

Another solution is to wear compression stockings or an anti-embolism probe. You have to adjust them because if they are too narrow, they can do more harm than good. Compression stockings and anti-embolism tubes restore the veins and help them function properly.

If these natural solutions do not solve a varicose vein problem, there are other more invasive procedures, including: low level laser and low frequency energy, sclerotherapy, TriVex and endovenous ablation. These procedures can eliminate varicose veins, but they can be expensive and inconvenient.

The above treatments are simple and painless methods for the treatment of varicose veins. They can always be used alone or in addition to varicose vein removal procedures.
