- Dressler syndrome is a type of inflammation of the heart sac (pericarditis). It is believed that Dressler’s syndrome is a reaction of the immune system after damage to the heart tissue or the bag (pericardium) surrounding the heart. Such damage can occur as a result of events such as heart attack, surgery, or traumatic injury. Symptoms include chest pain, which may be similar to chest pain that occurs during a heart attack. symptom
Symptoms are likely to appear weeks or months after a heart attack, surgery, or chest injury. Symptoms can be:
Chest pain
fever
The reasons
Experts believe that Dressler’s syndrome is caused by the immune system’s response to heart damage. Your body responds to injured tissue by sending immune cells and proteins (antibodies) to clean and repair the affected area. Sometimes this reaction causes excessive inflammation of the pericardium. Dressler syndrome can occur after certain heart operations or procedures.
Complications
The immune system reaction that causes Dressler syndrome can also cause fluid to build up in the tissues around your lungs (pleural effusion).
In rare cases, Dressler’s syndrome can lead to more serious complications, including:
Cardiac tamponade. Inflammation of the pericardium can cause fluid to build up in the sac (pericardial effusion). Fluid can put pressure on the heart, force it to work harder, and decrease its ability to pump blood efficiently.
Narrowing pericarditis. Recurring or chronic inflammation can cause the pericardium to thicken or scar. Scars can reduce the heart’s ability to pump blood efficiently. Dressler syndrome treatment in hyderabad
prevention
Some preliminary studies suggest that taking the anti-inflammatory drug colchicine before heart surgery may help prevent Dressler’s syndrome.
