overview
- Corticobasal degeneration is a rare condition in which areas of your brain shrink and, over time, your nerve cells degenerate and die. The disease affects the area of the brain that processes information and the brain structures that control movement. This degeneration makes it increasingly difficult to move one or both sides of your body.

The reasons
- The causes of corticobasal degeneration are unknown, but research suggests that a brain protein called tau may play a role in the disease. An accumulation of tau in brain cells can lead to their deterioration and symptoms of corticobasal degeneration.
- It’s important to know that you may have signs and symptoms that are similar to corticobasal degeneration but are caused by another degenerative disease of the brain, such as: B. progressive supranuclear palsy, Alzheimer’s disease, Pick’s disease, and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.
